Personalmente non sono riuscito a vedere nè sentire niente, ma se qualcuno ci volesse provare, ecco un link al sito di Mtv che promette l'ascolto in streaming di tutte le tracce dell'ultimo lavoro dei Giardini di Mirò, intitolato "North Atlantic Treaty Of Love" (una raccolta di remix, cover e 3 inediti), nonchè il video del remix di Given Ground. Come presupposti non c'è male, quindi spero che qualcuno abbia + fortuna di me e torni qui a dirmi come gli è sembrato il tutto.

Sul palco quest'anno, fra gli altri, Non voglio che Clara, Michael Rother & Dieter Moebius, Heavy Trash, per concludere il quarto giorno con proiezione di cortometraggi, vino, racconti e molto altro.

We recieved by email from one of our readers that we happily post the notice to the tenth edition of the Ypsigrock festival, that will take place in Castelbuono (PA) from the 10th through the 13th of August. On stage this year, among others, Non Voglio Che Clara [Want Nothing But Clara], Micheal Rother & Dieter Moebius, Heavy Trash, and to conclude the fourth day will have the projection of short films, wine will be served and much more.

Pukkelpop 2006 survival method 001

Quest'estate andrò in un bellissimo posto di nome Pukkelpop. Il bellissimo posto di nome Pukkelpop altro non è che un festival di 3 giorni che si tiene da 21 anni ad Hasselt-Kievit, in Belgio. Come da tradizione, anche quest'anno non mancano personaggi d'eccezione, fra cui 65daysofstatic, Radiohead, Zero 7, Mew, Massive Attack, The Raconteurs, Placebo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Morningwood, We Are Scientists e molti altri. In un festival in cui suonano più di 50 cristiani al giorno per 3 giorni (per un totale di più di 150 cristiani quindi) è difficile muoversi senza una dovuta preparazione. Ci vuole metodo, come diceva Leonard in Memento. Ed ecco il mio metodo. Con scalette alla mano sto facendo una selezione dei gruppi cercando di creare un percorso intelligente che mi permetta di vedere quanti + gruppi è possibile senza dover diventare necessariamente pazzo. Il frutto di questo lavoro potete trovarlo su un wiki che ho aperto a questo scopo... Prima di poter entrare è però necessaria la registrazione al sito ma per fortuna è un'operazione che non costa più di 25 secondi e potete farla da qui. Una volta registrati cliccate qui e guardate la mia selezione. Se avete consigli potete commentare direttamente sul wiki.

Veniamo al primo problema. I The Knife sono un gruppo che fa musica elettronica e da quello che ho sentito sulla loro pagina MySpace, sono un gran bel gruppo. Per altro sulla loro pagina MySpace c'è anche una simpatica cover di Heartbeats di Josè Gonzàlez. Ed indovinate chi suona su un altro palco durante la performance dei Knife? Josè Gonzàlez! Ora... meglio la cover o l'originale?

This summer I will go to the beautiful place of Pukklepop. This beautiful place is nothing else than a three day music festival celebrated for the past 21 years in Hesselt-Kievit, Belgium. As a tradition, exeptional bands willl be there, as in 65daysofstatic, Radiohead, Zero 7, Mew, Massive Attack, The Raconteurs, Placebo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Morningwood, We Are Scientists and many more. In a festival in which 50 christians play every day (a total of 150 christians) it's difficult to move without preparation. You need method, as Leonards says in Memento. And here's my method. With lists I'm selecting bands trying to create an intelligent route with the objective of seeing as many bands as possible and avoiding a mental breakdown... Before entering you need to register at the website, fortunately it's a process that doesn't take more than 25 seconds and you can do it here. Once registered you can go here and look at my selection. If you have suggestions you can comment directly on the Wiki.

Bringing us to the first problem. The Knife are a band that apparently from the information on thier MySpace page does electronic music, and they are a good band, too. On MySpace there is their cover of Heartbeats by Jose' Gonzalez. Now guess who is playing on another stage at the same time as The Knife? Jose' Gonzalez! Now... is it better the cover or the original?

Prima segnalazione, Wood di Greg Baumont, disco che dopo la partenza epica dei primi due brani tardo-richiama echi Kraftwerkiani in "The Blue Star", per poi diventare tardo-bucolico/nativamericano in "Respire!", Prodigyano in "Why" e così via, fino a creare un album forse un po' incasinato, ma piacevole da ascoltare. A cd that I won't mention because covered by copyright [:D] ended and my mp3 player starts playing spontaneously a nice example of dark but likeble electronic. It was Madame X's Inconscious. Ascoltavo la Drum and Bass tag radio di last.fm quando qualcosa mi colpisce più delle altre. E' un tale Big Bud.
Cerco subito qualche informazione su di lui scrivendo "big bud" dj ma mi compare Wikipedia - List of Cannabis Strains come primo risultato. Anche Google Images non mi aiuta più di tanto... le foto che mi propone sono quasi tutte della psicoattiva flora o, al massimo, di qualche trattore di marca Big Bud. Entrambi utilissimi, per carità, ma non in questo contesto.

I was listening to Drum and Bass tag radio from last.fm when something catches my attention. It's a guy called Big Bud.

(Woland is not informed on the popular expression used for pot, or if he does, he didn't calculate the popularity of the plant in question, which makes it funny for the translator, who is now laughing alone at her unaware friend)

I immediately type a search for "big bud" dj (lol) and my first result is Wikipedia-List of Cannabis Strains. Google images does not help me either... the pictures I get are all of the psychoactive flora or at the most a tractor of the "big bud" brand. Both very useful, of course, but not in this context.

Vado allora a leggere la Artist Description della sua pagina Last.fm che non dice molto di interessante sul suo conto ma si conclude con la frase "Skin a spliff, sit back and fly."
A questo punto capisco che si tratta di una congiura contro di me, mi rassegno e vi linko, direttamente da last.fm, solo la pagina di Infinity + Infinity, uno degli album di Big Bud, di cui potrete sentire un assaggio di tutte le canzoni del cd e farvi un'idea.

Then I decide to read the Artist Description on his last.fm page that doesn't say anything interesting about him, but ends with the phrase: "Skin a spliff, sit back and fly."

At this point I understand that it is a conspiracy against me and I give up and I link, directly from last.fm, only the to Infinity+Infinity, one of his albums, from which you can listen to a bit of every song to get an idea.

Ma se su Fabchannel.com ci sono così tanti video di concerti tenutisi al Paradiso e al Melkweg di Amsterdam, completi, di buona qualità, compresi quelli degli Explosions in the Sky, dei Do Make Say Think, di Emiliana Torrini e molti altri, mi spiegate perchè gli esseri umani continuano a lavorare, a studiare, a dare esami, a dormire, mangiare e fare altre cose futili invece di stare a casa tutto il giorno a vederseli come farò io da oggi in poi???

Since on Fabchannel there are so many videos of concerts at Paradiso and Melkweg in Amsterdam, that are complete, of good quality, including videos of Explosions in the Sky, Do Make Say Think, Emiliana Torrini and many more, then why do human beings have to continue to work, study, give exams, sleep, eat and do other futile things, instead of staying at home all day watching them, what will I do from now on???

Sono appena tornata da Summerfest, questa sera hanno suonato sul palco "Miller light beer" i Kings of Leon, sotto il ponte poco prima della uscita E1 su Michigan St.

"This is the first time I've ever played under a bridge!" dice il cantante.

Un concerto notevole, raccomando a chiunque di andarli a vedere se capitano nei dintorni! Questa e' la loro pagina MySpace e questo il loro sito ufficiale.

I just got home from Summerfest, tonight on the Miller light beer stage played the Kings of Leon, under the bridge just before exit E1 on Michigan St.

"This is the first time I've ever played under a bridge!" says the singer.

They performed graciously and the show was great. This is their MySpace page and this their official website.

Il loro album di esordio, And the battle is Won, uscito il 24 ottobre, è considerato uno delle rivelazioni del 2005. Sulla loro pagina MySpace potrete leggere numerose recensioni positive ed ascoltare 4 pezzi e farvi un'idea da soli di quanto siano bravi... Ma onestamente non è questo che ha colpito uno come me che si lascia affascinare dalle puttanate! Quello che mi ha colpito prima di tutto il resto è stato il loro nome completo:

Their first album "and the battle is won" was out in october and was considered one of the revelations of 2005. On their MySpace page you can read plenty of positive reviews and listen to four tracks and discover how good these guys are by yourselves... but to be honest that was not what interested at first a guy like me that likes miscellaneous crap! What hit me first of all was their complete name:

...I already love them! :D

Sigur Ros - Ny Batteri

Manca meno di una settimana ormai al concerto dei Sigur Ròs di Ferrara, che si terrà appunto il 4 luglio in Piazza Castello... Siccome penso proprio che non ci potrò andare, mi guardo sconsolato questa Ny Batteri (una delle mie preferite per altro) registrata proprio a Ferrara, due anni fa.

It's less than a week of waiting now for the Sigur Ros concert in Ferrara, on the 4th of July in Piazza Castello... Since I don't think I will be able to go, I'm watching grimly Ny Batteri (one of my favorites by the way) recorded in Ferrara two years ago.

I Seascapes of the Interior si sono sciolti alla fine del 2005, dopo aver prodotto solo un cd di appena 6 tracce e dopo aver suonato insieme per 8 anni.

Chi erano? Non lo so!

Però The hammer rings so loud, no one hears it mi piace, e quindi ve la metto qua, a portata di mano!

The Seascapes of Interior broke up at the end of 2005, after producing just one album with only 6 tracks and after they had played together for 8 years.

Who they were? I don't know!

Ieri l'Italia ha vinto 1 a 0 contro l'Australia, quindi posso permettermi di segnalarvi un altro gruppo proveniente dalla periferia a nord-ovest di Melbourne, senza correre il rischio di urare la sensibilità di nessuno!

Formatisi nel '97, gli International Karate sono composti da Callan Fox alle tastiere e alla chitarra, Mark Mascia al basso, Aaron Pepper alla batteria, Andrew Polydorou alla chitarra solista e Daniel Brownrigg, il cantante. Hanno pubblicato due album, il primo del 2003, inititolato Weapons of Mass Protection ed il secondo, A Monster in Soul, a Settembre 2004. Attualmente fanno qualche data in giro per l'Australia, spesso insieme ai This is Your Captain Speaking.

Il sito ufficiale dei TWDY nn dice niente di loro... anzi, non dice niente in generale. Ma last.fm li dava come simili ai Samuel Jackson Five (di cui ho già parlato) e questo è bastato per informarmi su di loro e capitare nella loro pagina MySpace, dove ho scoperto che sono un quartetto texano formatosi nel 2005 e che hanno pubblicato un album, Young Mountain, con l'etichetta indipendente Magic Bullet Records. Attualmente sono in tour in giro per l'America, con varie date previste per luglio ed agosto. Li terremo d'occhio!

Intanto, eccovi un pezzo a portata di mano!

TWDY's official website doesn't say anything about them... or anything at all. But last.fm was selling them as similar to Samuel Jackson Five (whom i've already talked about) and this was enough for me to get informed and end up on their MySpace page, where I discovered that they are a texan quartet formed in 2005 and that they have out one album, "Young Mountain", with the indipendent label "Magic Bullett Records". They are at the moment in tour in America, with dates for July and August. We'll keep an eye on them!

Summer Sun in principio non nasce come cover... Nata come canzone originale, col tempo ha inglobato una nuova versione di una delle canzoni x "coverate" di tutti i tempi, Summertime di Billie Holiday. Siccome l'abbiamo sentita cantare in tutti i modi eccovela anche in salsa trip-hop!

Loro sono gli Xtrasense Music Project. Sul loro sito ufficiale trovate anche il video di summer sun intitolato "La copertura della sedia", diretto da tale Sebastian G., la cui descrizione dice: "Quando una sedia diventa una donna e la copertura di una sedia il suo vestito, l'unica possibile musica di sottofondo deve essere una canzone degli Xtrasense". Penso che questo dica di loro più di mille parole!

Summer Sun was not born as a cover... it was born as an original song, with time it incorporated a new version of one of the most covered songs of all time, Billie Holiday's Summertime. Since we've already heard it in so many ways here's in a salsa trip-hop version!

They are the Xtreasense Music Project. On thier official website you will find the the video of Summer Sun called "the cover of the chair", directed by Sebastian G., he describes it: "When a chair becomes a woman and the cover of the chair becomes her dress, the only possible soundtrack is a song by Xtrasense". I think this says more about them than a thousand words!

Explosions in the sky

Persone informate mi dicono che gli Explosions in the Sky non verranno in italia almeno x 4-5 anni... Non sappiamo in verità fra quanto tempo riusciremo a vedere dal vivo dalle nostre parti uno dei migliori gruppi della scena post rock mondiale... quindi x adesso accontentatevi di questo video, registrato alla Reckless Records, in chi sa quale parte del mondo. Non sarà la stessa cosa che vedere un loro concerto, ma almeno dura 20 minuti!

Informed people tell me that Explosions in the Sky will not be coming to Italy for the next 4-5 years... We don't really know when we will be able to see live one of the best post rock bands in the world around here... so, for now you can watch this video, recorded at Reckless Records, who knows where. It's not the same as being at a concert but at least it's 20 minutes long!

Gran bel personaggio Zoe Keating... non solo esteticamente, ma anche per quello che fa sul palco... Violoncellista solista, ai concerti registra un pezzo della canzone lo mette in loop, ci registra sopra un altro pezzo, mette in loop anche quello, ci suona ancora sopra, e così via, fino a comporre l'intera canzone. Il primo che dice "lo fa anche Alex Britti" viene bannato e scomunicato!

Great character Zoe Keating... not only esthetically, but also what she does on stage... Solist Cellist, at concerts she records a piece of the song and plays it in a loop, then she records over it another piece, plays that in loop, too, and so on, composing the entire song. Si stanno già conquistando il successo che meritano anche dalle nostre parti, dove sono stati ad aprile e dove torneranno il 29 giugno per suonare allo Spaziale Festival di Torino, la stessa sera in cui si esibiranno anche i Mogwai.
